Frostproof apartment residents forced out by leaky roofs after Irma

You ve heard the saying:  take it one day at a time. And that is exactly what some residents in Frostproof are having to do after they continue to struggle two weeks after Hurricane Irma.

FROSTPROOF, Fla. - You've heard the saying: 'take it one day at a time.' And that is exactly what some residents in Frostproof are having to do after they continue to struggle two weeks after Hurricane Irma.

"It's got rice and beans in there," said a Red Cross worker through the window of her relief truck. "In every ones meal today, there's going be a meal that you can just put in the microwave."

At Elkhorn apartments in Frostproof, where renters are elderly and many are disabled, folks are taking it hour by hour. Lunch hour is a Red Cross hot meal.

"I'm glad they came out. I didn't think they were coming at all. I didn't think anybody was coming,” said Mario Ramos.

Inside Apartment 11, Marcia Forsett packed up what she could.

"It could buckle right now because there's water," said Forsett talking about her ceiling. "That's where I'm at. You know, I'm done crying. Almost done crying.”

Her belongings are going into storage, thanks to a friend who volunteered to help but she doesn't even know where she'll spend the night yet.

"The Care Center here in Frostproof is going to help me with vouchers for the weekend but after the weekend, I don't know? I have to call FEMA back,” she said. "I'll worry about eating, sleeping and everything else later.”
